The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stated: "Whoever joins the funeral procession of a Muslim with faith and seeking divine reward, participates in the prayer and burial, will receive a reward equal to two Qirats [units]. Each Qirat is as massive as the mountain of Uhud. If one attends the prayer without joining the burial, they will receive one Qirat." (Narrated by Al Bukhari)
Islamic funeral rites entail several responsibilities towards a deceased Muslim, including washing, shrouding, following the procession, offering prayers, and burial. This platform is designed to uphold these duties, encouraging increased participation in funeral prayers for Muslims in France and beyond.
Encouraging words from a respected scholar urge us to persist!
During a conversation on April 10, 2009 (14 Rabi Thani 1430), scholar Ibn Saleh Al-Fawzan endorsed our efforts, emphasizing the importance of our work. Here is an excerpt from his response:
Question: Is it permissible to publicize funeral prayers for deceased individuals to increase the number of attendees, considering that many in France are not familiar with this practice due to frequent hospital ceremonies? We have established a website for this purpose. Is this acceptable? Answer: Announcing the passing of a Muslim individual to gather people for their funeral prayer is commendable and holds noble intent. There is no objection to this practice, as even the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) announced the demise of Negus and gathered his companions for funeral prayers despite being miles apart. (Note: Negus passed away in Abyssinia, while the Prophet was in Medina, informed through revelation. This incident is documented by Bukhari and Muslim.)
